The full moon of November 2026 is called the Beaver Moon, and this year it is also a supermoon. It reaches its exact full phase at 14:53 UTC on Tuesday, November 24, 2026, at a distance of roughly 360,800 kilometres from Earth, close enough to its perigee to count as a supermoon.

Because the exact moment of fullness falls in daylight for North America, the practical viewing window is moonrise on the evenings of Monday, November 23 and Tuesday, November 24. The moon will look full on both nights, and it will appear largest and most orange as it rises above the eastern horizon.

A supermoon is simply a full moon that happens near perigee, the point where the moon is closest to Earth. NASA notes that a supermoon can look up to about 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter than a full moon at its farthest point, although in practice the difference is subtle and the famous moon illusion near the horizon does most of the work.

The name Beaver Moon comes from Native American and early colonial traditions, marking the season when beavers finish building their winter lodges and trappers set traps before the swamps freeze. This November it is the first of three consecutive supermoons, followed by the December Cold Moon on December 24 and the January 2027 Wolf Moon.

You need no telescope to enjoy it. Find a clear view to the east-northeast, arrive a few minutes before sunset, and watch the moon climb. Binoculars will show the dark maria and bright ray craters, and the moon sits near the Pleiades and Hyades star clusters in Taurus, which are worth a look once it is higher in the sky.
