Starship is the largest and most powerful rocket ever flown, and SpaceX streams every test flight live and free. A launch is worth watching even if you have never followed a rocket before, because the flight profile is unlike any other: a 121-metre stack, a booster that flies back to the launch tower, and a ship that re-enters the atmosphere belly-first.

The best stream is SpaceX's own broadcast on X, which starts about 30 to 40 minutes before liftoff and carries the cleanest onboard camera views. NASA's coverage is a good second choice when the flight is a NASA-related mission, and independent channels such as NASASpaceflight and Everyday Astronaut add expert commentary and multiple camera angles, including the famous tower cameras at Starbase in Texas.

Launch dates shift often, so check SpaceX's X account on the day rather than trusting a calendar entry from weeks earlier. Starship launches from Starbase in Boca Chica, Texas, and the launch window is usually a few hours long. Road closures and a temporary flight restriction around the site are the reliable signs that a launch attempt is real.

The moments to watch for come in a fast sequence. At liftoff, all 33 Raptor engines on the Super Heavy booster light and the stack clears the tower. About two and a half minutes later the booster separates and begins its return, relighting engines to slow down and steer back toward the launch tower. The catch, if attempted, happens about seven minutes after launch, when the tower's chopstick arms close around the falling booster. It is the most dramatic moment in modern rocketry and the one that makes Starship worth watching live.

If the booster catch is not attempted on a given flight, watch the ship instead. Starship's upper stage continues to space, and on recent test flights it has deployed satellite simulators and practised an in-space engine relight before re-entering the atmosphere. Re-entry is the other spectacle: the ship falls belly-first, glowing with plasma, before flipping upright and splashing down in the Indian Ocean. Not every flight goes to plan, and SpaceX treats failures as data, so a rapid unscheduled disassembly is a real possibility and still a useful test.
